All Aboard Quilt #45

It’s been a bit since my last post.  I’ve gotten started on a few things, but needed to do a quick no thought something.  Decided on a simple quilt using a charm pack that I got way back on clearance somewhere.  It is All Aboard by Greta Lynn for Benartex.

Here are my rows ready to be pieced.

Forgot to take any pictures before I had it together.  I needed to order some  backing fabric and went with the dark grey train track print.  It is very cute.

Let’s guess how I quilted this one.  You are right, straight lines, but just a few along the seams.

I thought I was lucky enough to have backing fabric leftover for binding.  I been working on improving my bindings and had thought at times I would like to try 2 1/4″  rather than 2 1/2″ binding.  Well this was the day.  I could get the 4 strips I thought I needed by using 2 1/4″.  So off I went sewing my binding on and doing my final connection.

See that little 3/4″ piece on the mat, that was my extra on the binding.  Don’t know what I did right this day, but it worked in my favor.  Didn’t even realize it was going to be that closes.  Yikes!!

Got to finish the binding yesterday and was quite please with the 2 1/4″ .  I machine sew my binding, don’t have enough talent to do hand sewing.  The back looked quite nice, I surprised myself.  The corners gave me a bit of trouble, so that I still need to work on, but with practice I think it will be great!

Here is the cute little quilt all finished.  We even had sunshine to cooperate for a few quick pictures.

Jan!!! I love, LOVE, L.O.V.E. this train fabric!! I absolutely HAVE to get this for my new great-nephew. I was just saying this morning I need to make another quilt for him, and trains would be beyond perfect. He only has three, and his fourth is being quilted now. Oh wait, he has four already. Well, whatever – he NEEDS this. For sure. I am so thrilled I saw this today. ~smile~ Roseanne

It’s really pretty. I love the quilting on it too.
I almost always do 2 1/4 inch for my binding now instead of 2 1/2, just seems to work out better for me. Always great when you have just enough!
I have one quilt now that I didn’t have enough for my binding. I had to go to search my stash only to find I had no more of that exact color. I found a pretty close match but then had to take cut some areas and work in the other color here and there so now it looks like I did it that way on purpose.

It turned out so cute, Jan! Congratulations for trying 2 1/4″ and for having *just* enough binding. It’s sweet when it works out so well.

I do 2.5 inches for binding and it has always worked for me if I do it less I can do the corners neatly. Your quilting looks great – I like straight line quilting and I don’t care for “too much” quilting lol – I’m picky – I like the modern look of straight lines but usually do more traditional patterns!

Oh my this is so cute! The train fabric is wonderful! I love how your quilting reminds me of train tracks. Your binding looks good. Can’t believe you only had that tiny bit left! Thanks for linking to Wednesday Wait Loss.

This quilt is so choo-choo cute and I’m going to have to buy some of that backing fabric too–hopefully Roseanne won’t buy all of it. And speaking of binding, I can now tell you something funny. Remember my coin quilt which Nancy quilted for me and I was trying to decide on binding it with either pink or teal and the teal was my choice. I wanted to use the pink but was a half of strip short and thought I had it until I realized it was one of the strips I had just given you. I thought it would be too rude for me to ask you to send it back. Funny, right?

That looks so cute. I love your choice of fabrics and that binding fabric is absolutely perfect. The straight line quilting is spot on with that fabric.

I use the 2 1/2 inch binding for my machine sewn binding, but 2 1/4 for the hand sewn binding. That was a close cut on your binding! Yikes.
