November OMG – Lazy Goose #44

November is almost gone, only one month to go before the start of a new year.  Only one more goal for most, I’m scheduled for surgery so not sure that I will be doing much sewing in December, so this is my last quilting goal for 2017.

I started my OMG for November here.

My goal was to bind and quilt.   I got busy early this month, hoping to finish before the holiday.

The backing was  a wide light flannel, which adds some coziness to this quilt.  Straight line quilting and my favorite stripe binding were the winners, ok there really weren’t any others choices in the running, so they were the winner by default.

I was blessed to have a sunny day to snap a few pictures outside.

This was a great quilt to use up some fat quarters that I wanted to show off the prints.  It should have been a rather quick quilt, but I learned that I need to add to my goals for 2018, how to accurately cut fabric.  I am not consistent in using the ruler, is the line suppose to be on the edge of the fabric?  Should the fabric show just over the line?  What are your tips for cutting accuracy?  Do you have a favorite link or online class for cutting accuracy?  Let me know, as I can use some help.

I hope your surgery goes well and you heal quickly.

The quilt is lovely! As for piecing accuracy, I just try to do the same thing; for me, that means all my cutting is best done at the same time.

Good luck with your surgery!a lovely quilt and yes, it really does show off the fabric. I, too, am partial to striped bindings. This one is perfect.

Bonnie Hunter at quiltville addresses cutting accuracy in her blog today! Maybe her friendly reminders can help you.

I almost went past your post but then the Me & My Sister fabrics and Clover Clips caught my eye, then I looked at the gray fabric and realized it was you. This quilt turned out so pretty, good use of the fat quarters. As for cutting accuracy, I use a June Tailor Shape-Cut ruler plus you know I’m a die-cutter which doesn’t mean my piecing is always accurate. Good luck with your surgery, and heal fast because I don’t want to get in trouble by myself . You’ll be in my prayers. Hugs.

I hope your surgery goes well, Jan, and that your recovery time is short. Your quilt is lovely, and I really like that binding! As to the cutting, I have found it works better for me if I put the line on the fabric.

I love your quilt! I try to put the fabric right in the middle of the line. I also found I love using the ‘green’ Omni gird rulers best. It seems there lines are much easier to see and line up.

The giant geese are great — the gray background and backing allow the prints to shine. I haven’t needed to cut huge/accurate squares — maybe drawing a template on cardboard and cutting around that would work. Hope your surgery goes well.

    Hi,
Beautiful quilt! Love the flannel backing, very warm for those cold nights.
    Have a great day!

    Hi Jan,
I hope you surgery goes well and is early enough in December for you to have plenty of time for the end-of-month holidays. {{Hugs}} You had a beautiful finish to your November OMG project. I just love the striped binding, as well the the fabrics you chose. This size geese does a great job showing off those fabrics. I am always a huge fan of straight-line quilting! I suspect I have some in my near future. I hope you’ll be able to post to let us know how you’re doing. I think you are joining us for the sew-along starting in January (Regatta)? I hope you’ll be up to it. ~smile~ Roseanne
