Regatta QAL Finish

Finished my first quilt for 2018 and met my January 2018 One Monthly Goal.  Great start to the new year.  I started the Home Sewn By Us – Regatta Quilt Along and set it as my one monthly goal January goal here.

I finished the top earlier this week and am kind of happy with the finish.  I had lots of questioning of my choices for the quilting.

In this picture you can see I chose the wavy line quilting using my walking foot, no surprise here.  I used a blue variegated thread.  I love the thread, just wasn’t sure it was the best choice for the quilt.  Once I had half of the initial lines done, on the seams, I stepped back and said no this isn’t going to work.  I was second guessing myself, thinking that white thread would have been a better choice.  Also thinking that straight line would have been a better choice.  The big question is do I rip it all out and start over.  The answer was keep going, it will be ok.  The thread choice I made reminded me of water and the quilting reminded me of waves.  I was thinking beach.

I used a wide back flannel in a light blue with some white areas, made me think of clouds. The thread and quilting look good on the back.  I had one strip left from the front of the quilt, so I added it to some leftover white on white strips I had and used for the binding.

I do like this quilt, but not sure it goes on my top 10 favorites.

    Hi Jan,
I’m so glad to see your Regatta quilt finished! I think the quilting is just perfect for the beach and waves, and your fabric choices do tell that story. I love the flannel on the back; I’ll bet it feels all snuggly and quilty and warm. I’m sorry it’s not one of your top 10 favorites – that is a lofty goal for a rather simple pattern perhaps. I can’t wait to share it on the next update and send everyone back to your post! ~smile~ Roseanne

Love the way this turned out and I think the quilting is perfect. Makes me want to get near a warm ocean! Love the little bits of whit in the binding. Such a nice quilt – not all start out or remain our favorites, but when I look at my collection, I am happy about each quilt for what it is….kind of like what my mother said about children….each one has its own personality – very different from each other.

I love this! The wavy quilting is perfection. The blue thread adds to the illusion of water. Awesome finish! Thanks for linking to Wednesday Wait Loss.

I’m glad you kept going with the wavy lines and variegated thread. It looks wonderful–and cozy. It also makes a lot of sense for the way you described the design.

Sticking with the thread and quilting seems like a good choice to me. I think that the quilting does give it a feeling of waves. It looks like it will be a snuggly quilt to cuddle under!

I like your quilting! It’s going to have great texture. Your colors are beautiful. I like that you went into gray from the blue greens.
