OMG One Monthly Goal for September 2016

Saw this post from Red Letter Quilts and thought it would be perfect to kickstart me for a finish.

I started my quilt #14 in early June of this year.  At this time I was using my sisters Viking Platinum 930 and was getting ready for vacations this summer.  I ran into a few bumps in getting the piecing to work and just gave up at the time.

So I am ready to get back to it.

I started with Kate Spain Canyon Collection  I had bought this last winter.  It was the first fat quarter bundle I had purchased.  I just started quilting in the fall of 2015.

Then I decided on this pattern, Summertime Herringbone Quilt by Michael Ann Made.

The pattern called for 6 1/2 yards of fabric, so I chose 12 fat quarters from the bundle.  Here they are:

Now that I have trimmed my HSTs, I started to layout the top.  Of course, I had to try straight up HSTs, as well as a few other patterns.

Straight up HSTs

Diamond HSTs

Chevron HSTs

Not sure which I like best, so I decided to sit on the pattern choice for a few days.

I then decided on the Chevron HSTs.  I sewed a few rows together and ran into a few issues with thread breaking, difficulty going over some of the seams, etc.  and decided to put it into the box for then.

Here are the rows I put together, before giving up.

Even have the backing all decided.

Here is my give up box.

But now I am ready to go and commit to my September goal.  I will finish this quilt in September.  Vacations are over.  I have a new machine.  I am ready to go.  Oh, that is after I finish up the quilt I am binding right now.  Hopefully that will only take me a day or so.

This is beautiful fabric! I purchased a layer cake of this a while back and loved working with it. Can't wait to see finish:)

Beautiful pattern choice for those fabrics. You might try a new needle and/or a larger one, size 14-16, to help with thread breaking. This seems to do the trick every time when my thread starts breaking. There are also special needles by Schmetz for quilting that have a different tip for going through multiple layers of fabric. Sometimes Craftsy has them.

Thanks for the thoughts Myra. I am now a proud owner of a new Janome 9400, so once I finished binding the quilt I am working on finishing, I will move onto this one. Hoping the new machine will sew these like a charm.
