2020 Beginnings

Started off 2020 with a simple bee block, cute little pumpkins.

Just before the holidays I decided to start a quilt for myself in 2020.  I had some lazy time and decided to get started.  My plan is to make a stamp quilt for myself.  As I’ve bought fabric over the years, I try to buy a mini-charm pack of the fabric line.  My plan is to use these mini’s in a scrappy fashion for my stamps.

First step is to unwrap the mini’s.

I decided to not use the solid mini’s.  Have them all in a box, just needed to mix them up good.  Surprisingly, it took me a bit of time to unwrap and get each pack apart.  Wow was there the fabric dust.  I sneezed for a good hour after I was done.

Not having a plan for how I was going to put this together, I just started to sew two together at random.

I sewed a little bit here and there over the holidays.  It really went quickly.  Then randomly sew twos together to make fours.  Then fours to make a row of eight.

I decided eight was it.  I would make 8 x 8 blocks.  Here are my first two blocks.  Only 23 more to go for a 90 x 90 quilt.  This will be the largest quilt I have made, so wish me luck when it comes time to quilt.

I went through the box and randomly pulled eight strips for each block and have them ready for some free time to sew.

My January 2020 One Monthly Goal is to have the quilt top completed.

What a fun quilt this will be! You can have big quilt quilted for you or rent time on a local machine. Otherwise, think about doing it in smaller pieces. Sandra mentions one technique in her blog today – mmmQuilts!

Love it, Jan!!! A lot of people buy those candy charms at the quilt shop and then don’t know what to do with them. Yours is a great solution!

I have thought I should vacuum the edges when I bring those sneaky dust storms in….but I haven’t yet. Maybe a little “studio vac” would give me incentive. I can’t wait to see this…it will be spectacular. And an easy way to get to a big quilt without a lot of anxiety!
