My Stitching Resolution 2021

Carla at Creatin’ in the Sticks is hosting a great little Blog Hop.  It is a quick one, just one day.

Her challenge is to complete this sentence:

My stitching resolution for 2021 is _____________________________.

This is a bit different for me.  I usually list out what quilts and projects I want to complete in the coming year.

But for Carla’s hop here are the things I plan (I use that word loosely) to do in 2021.

Lessen my use of paper

First up is making napkins, lots, so we can stop using paper napkins.  I have numerous pins for making napkins.  I’ve spent too much time in researching and need to just start grabbing fabric and sew!!

Ruler Work

I bought a couple of rulers to use for quilting my tops.  This is something I have wanted to do for awhile.  I bought the upgrade for my machine a few years ago and never did more.  This is                  the year.

Quilts for our King Bed

I haven’t made any quilts for our bed and this is the year.  A Buffalo plaid is up first, followed by a Christmas quilt.  Don’t worry this plan will not overlap with the Ruler Work Plan (that could be a disaster).  You won’t want to miss the Christmas quilt, I am doing a stamp quilt 2.5″ squares for a King Bed.  I haven’t figured out how much cutting I will be doing but it will be alot!!!

Challenges to me

Complete the 3.5″ blocks for the Fat Quarter Shop Sewcialites QAL

Jump on the Hop and see what these other great quilters have for 2021!

Hi Jan, you look very organised. I too have seen those stamp quilts and always admire the quilters who have made them. I have a lot of scraps and have started to cut them into various sizes some of which have been stamp size. I would love to make a quilt of it. Have a wonderful 2021. Hugs & Love, Susie xx

    Sounds like a lovely plan!

  3. December 30, 2020 / 4:28 am

Great plans. I also need to use less paper. It is amazing at all of the beautiful quilts you make. I have not made a king size one yet. Well, only a king size bed runner,

Ah, rulers! It’s a dream for me too, except it’s still a dream! You have them, so you can play with, and I will come and follow your practice. Making a king size stamp quilt is a great plan too.

I like to hand guide my quilting – ruler work I let one of my quild members do as she is SO MUCH BETTER at it. I make a lot of postage stamp quilts (my biggest sellers) and a King is so much easier to make with strattas subcut rather than piece by piece.

Awesome ideas. A postage stamp quilt for a king size bed sounds like fun.

I enjoy quilting with rulers, I hope you do get to start and enjoy it. I like the idea of using less paper!

I made the switch to cloth napkins a few years ago and haven’t looked back. I like them so much more than paper. I wrote a post on mine, so let me know if you want more research (wink). You have some good goals ahead. I’m especially looking forward to seeing your progress on your quilts for your bed (I need to do that too).

I love the look of postage stamp quilts but I don’t think I could cut that many tiny squares!

  10. December 30, 2020 / 9:23 am

These are all great goals. I have 3 beds in my house and not a single one has a quilt on it. What is wrong with me. I need to get on your “Kingsize” goal too. There are a couple of rulers I have too… OMG – I should just do your goals with you. lol Happy New Year!

I have cut back on paper products and I believe you will feel so much better once you start. I did find that I really didnt need 18 inch napkins for daily family use and made those 12 inch square. I also reduced drastically my paper towel usage by taking an old flannel sheet and making 6 x 12 rectangles with zig zagged edges. I use them for everything I used paper towels for with the exception of grease and dog stuff. The napkins, faux paper towels and the dish towels have their own laundry basket .

You’ve made some great goals, Jan. Making a king-sized quilt is quite the challenge, one I’ve never done. Ruler quilting is something I’ve dabbled in and should have added to my resolution list. Replacing paper products with fabric is a wonderful way to use a fabric stash and help the environment. Good luck with all your resolutions and have a Happy New Year!

  13. December 30, 2020 / 10:57 am

Excellent goals for the new year! Enjoy accomplishing your stitching resolutions, and happy 2021!

  14. December 30, 2020 / 11:14 am

I want to add Ruler work to my list as well. I want to get past dabbling.

  15. December 30, 2020 / 12:49 pm

Great goals, I should have thought of that ruler one myself. I bought a number of rulers, and haven’t gotten around to practicing with them yet. I too need to make a king sized quilt for my bed! Good luck on reaching your goals. !

I’d love to see some of the napkin pins. I’m not sure I could get DH to participate in not grabbing a paper towel.

  17. December 30, 2020 / 2:22 pm

Some great goals there. I will be interested to see and hear about your ruler work…something I am interested in having a go at.

  18. December 30, 2020 / 4:17 pm

Your list of goal is realistic and very doable. I am looking forward to your projects in 2021, especially the King Size Quilt. Happy New Year to you and yours!!!

  19. December 30, 2020 / 5:05 pm

Sounds like a plan. Good luck.

You sure know who to pack a year full of fun! 3.5” blocks you say? Yikes! I can’t wait to see it! Happy New Year

  21. December 30, 2020 / 6:35 pm

Great resolutions! Have fun while reaching your goals!
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

  22. December 30, 2020 / 6:58 pm

Sounds great, Jan! I can’t wait to see these quilts come into being! Especially the king size quilts–buffalo and Christmas!

  23. December 31, 2020 / 12:11 am

I use cloth napkins, but my family protests. I just bought two new rulers to try and I have a king bed that needs a BIGGER quilt! This is not the year for that, though. Best of luck on working your plan!

Great resolutions. I have made napkins and used them for years. One hint, I double side and turn for napkins and love using batiks – not stains really show up! Look forward to seeing what you create.

Don’t think of cutting the king-sized quilt all at once. Smaller bites will be more fun and manageable. Several of my family members do the cloth napkins; you can do it!

  26. January 2, 2021 / 8:37 am

Excellent plan for 2021! Those 3-1/2 inch blocks look great but I bet they are a pain! I’ve done a few small quilts and those little pieces drive me nuts! LOL
