January 2021 OMG

Welcome to 2021.  It feels good to be moving forward.  I am hopeful that things will improve.  I am hopeful that the vaccines will do their job.  I am hopeful that we will all give the vaccines time to work before we try to resume some sense of normalcy.

I am going to get back to normalcy by setting my One Monthly Goal.  I used to do this every month, but just got off track last spring.  So I am back and ready to restart my OMGs.

One of my goals for 2021 is to make a couple of king size quilts for our bed.  The first up is a Buffalo Plaid quilt.  When I decided to do this, I ordered my fabric when there was a great sale and I had a gift certificate.  Win-Win.

I am using Kona White, Kona Storm and Essex Yarn dyed Nautical linen.

So let’s pretend I have EQ8.  I would have put the pieces into the software and it would have spit out what I needed.  But no, I did old style and I hope it did it right.  I colored boxes in excel and then counted squares.  Decided on using 5.5 inch finished blocks, so a whole lot of 6 inch blocks.  Calculated the number of blocks by color.  Then number of blocks by WOF and number of strips needed.

My OMG for January is to get this quilt cut out.

This will be a nice quilt, and the construction should go fairly quickly. Will be fun to see your progress on this!

I’m interested to see how you progress with this one. I’ve never heard of a buffalo plaid, but your fabric choice sounds lovely.
