Charity Quilts

It is time for Confessions of a Fabric Addict – Hands 2 Help

I’ve been doing these quilts since 2016 when I signed up, you can read about my snafu here, What did I sign up for? Hands2Help

When we moved in 2019, the development we moved to had a quilting group that met on Thursday afternoons.  I always meat to stop in and remembered it was Thursday afternoon at about 5PM, missed it again.  They posted they were doing a retreat at our community center this spring.  I decided I was going.  The first day was making quilts for a local charity group.  We finished 12 for the day.  They were baby quilts for the military base babies.

The second day we did a Jelly Roll Race.  I pulled out a Jelly Roll for day two.  Can you believe I only have two jelly rolls left, one is Halloween and one is a Zen Chic I have been “saving”.  Here is my finished top from the day.

And pictures of the finished quilt.

The backing is a very soft cozy flannel.

My intention for this quilt was Hands 2 Help.  Oh, but you know how I go.  I wanted to do another quick quilt to include, so ran to my sisters and shopped her stash.  As I started sewing this jelly roll, I remembered a post I had read the day before.  It was a woman in our community looking for things for a girl who was aging out of foster care and moving into her own apartment.  I asked her if she could use a quilt, as I thought it would be nice receive something new, just for her at her new place.  I asked the woman and she said one of the girls would be thrilled, as she had two girls aging out.  Wait there were two girls.

You know what that meant, the above quilt for Hands 2 Help was being “rehomed”.  And the second one here was going to girl number two.

This second quilt turned out great.  I wasn’t sure on these darker colors, but was quick thrilled when it was done.  It too has a very soft and cozy flannel for the backing.

Now back to Hands 2 Help. Since these two quilts were not making their way to Hands 2 Help, I cut out another bundle.  It is a Cotton & Steel Friends.  I won this sometime ago, so thought it would make a great quilt.

I have been wanting to do triangles again, so pulled out my Sugar Plum pattern

Knowing that I want to send more than one quilt and knowing that I am slow to get these done this month.  Checked my quilt cupboard and will be sending these two quilts also.  You can read about them here.

At this point, I will have three quilts for Hands 2 Help, hopefully by the end of April.

3 quilts for Hands to 2 Help and 2 more to people locally. I appreciate all that you and so many others in our community do to spread love. And I hope making the triangle quilt is fun!

I’m pretty sure that Sarah would count all four (plus the replacement quilt you plan to make) as part of the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge. She encourages us to give to local charities, if we see a need. Those girls aging out of foster care can certainly use a quilty hug!

I have wanted to make quilts for teens aging out of the foster care system. I can’t imagine an 18 year old is ready to be on her own. I need to get off my “duff” and see what can be done in my community too. I haven’t even looked for my contributions to H2H this year. More to do here!

Nice work Jan, you really got on the ball with those quilts. I am giving all my H2H to local charity to avoid shipping charges. I would rather spend the $ in fabric or batting to make more quilts;)

Hi Jan! What wonderful quilts for those girls and their new homes. They will be tickled pink to have something brand new, just for them. They feel all the good wishes and love you stitched throughout them. And the H2H quilt are fabulous, too. I feel like a slacker – I don’t have mine even all cut out yet! You’re inspiring me to get busy. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Great quilts for a great cause. I’m sure they all will be appreciated! I also need to finish my hands2help quilts.
