Half Way to Goal

Last year I did a quick quilt using Me and My Sisters Brighten Up in a charm pack and came up with this quilt.

I liked the looks of this quilt and the fabric, you can see my finish post here.  Brighten Up.

When I decided to make a quilt for each of the Granddaughters and I have a couple of layer cakes of this fabric left, I decided to make some type of similar quilt.  I wanted to add their names to the quilts, as well.  Picked up Lori Holt’s  Spelling Bee Book for their names.

I wanted to do something similar to the Jolly Bar, Picket Fence pattern I had used last time, but wanted a twin size quilt.  Decided to cut the layer cakes into 2.5 inch strips and attach a 2.5 x 5 inch white to each.  Got to cutting.

Once I had my cutting done, I decided I needed to get those names done.  Wanted to be sure I could do them and not have any issues.  I think they turned out great.

First top is done.  I think I need a taller quilt holder, no I’ll keep this one, just need to put him on a chair next time.

Took a bit of a detour over the last couple of days and decided to make a few bowties and bows for my niece and her family.  We visited them in South Carolina a few weeks ago and the boys love their bowties.  These were quick and easy.  I used Makeit-Loveit – Little Boy Bowtie

These turned out pretty cute.  I made one for their Dad, too.  Made my niece a pink and grey Jeep fabric scarf and her daughter a headband in the pink and grey.  I was in such a hurry to get things mailed, forgot to take any pictures.  Take my word for it they were flawless and perfect (LOL), but they were cute.

Off to get my 10,000 steps and then onto Granddaughter #2’s quilt top.

Just love the new quilt (and the older one too!) I have a spelling book I won from Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, must do something like you did for my grandson! Adorable bowties too! Thanks for linking up at TGIFF.

Oh I love your quilts and your granddaughters are going to love them. What a great idea to add their names; I may use it for a future quilt for Micah. I do think you have a kindred spirit with the Me and My Sisters fabrics. And I love the bowties, I think they would look pretty good on pets too.

What sweet quilts! I love the idea of adding their names. I’m definitely going to have to try making a bow tie for my son, who loves them–he’s a little too big for the little kid sized ones at the store, but not big enough yet for “man-sized”! Wish you’d gotten pics of your niece and her daughter with their goodies, but I know how easy it is to get swept up in the moment. I’m glad you had a good time traveling and visiting!
