Memory Pillow and Bear

Just finished up a quilt for Hubby’s niece having her first baby in a few weeks.  You can see those cute Dr. Seuss pictures here.

I originally wanted to add a few pieces of Donna, her mom’s favorite shirts to the quilt, but didn’t get them in time.  Plan B was to make something with the shirts for baby Liam.

This was a bit scary, you only get one chance, since I only had two shirts to use.  Cut the first shirt for a pillow, the front is striped and the back is solid.  Perfect for a pillow.

I had found this cute phrase to put on the solid side of the shirt.  Used my trusty Frixion pen to mark the lines so the wording would be nice and straight.

Once I had the wording on it was time to iron the Frixion away.  Oops it doesn’t work the same on knit t-shirts as it does on quilting cotton.  Maybe I should have tested that on a scrap piece of shirt first, that would have been too easy.

My fix to that dilemma is to do white lines under each line of wording.  Time to pull out the painters tape to get the lines straight across the shirt.

Turned out pretty cute.  Baby Momma is having a very difficult time without her Mom by her side.  It will be a year in two weeks that she left us, hopefully this will help her a small bit.

Now on to the next shirt.  I cut out these cute little patterns.  The key word is little.

I cut two bears out, but when they went together the little one looked like something, I’m not sure what.  When I turned it out the arms were barely there, so there is now one bear.

I turned out cute and hopefully she will see the thought rather than the final product.

I bought some cute ribbons to make this tag blanket for Baby Liam.  I used the fabric from his quilt and this cute flannel Dr. Seuss.  Bought a bunch of ribbon.  I haven’t bought ribbon in ages.  I thought I would be able to buy a yard of each of the ribbons I wanted.  Wrong, can only buy a roll of ribbon.  Know I have 8 rolls of ribbon.

It did turn out cute and so quick.  I’ll make some more and add them to my Jack’s Basket shipment.

In memory of my SIL, this was sent off to her daughter who is due on the one year anniversary of her Mom’s passing.  Hopefully, this will bring her a little bit of comfort.

Not that I need to remind you, but don’t take tomorrow for granted.  None of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

Go off today and have a great day!!!

Sweet gifts. I love all the thought that has gone into them. And yes, you can make a lot of tag blankets for JB babies–thank you for doing that!

I agree with Kathleen and Nancy, such sweet gifts, and a lovely thing to do. She won’t be looking at the fine points, but she will love these for years to come. And taggie blankets for JB, perfect!
